Bangkok, July 24, 2026 – Thailand has emerged as one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic investment destinations, drawing a record US$43.6 billion in applications during the first half of 2026.

The surge, driven largely by artificial intelligence, cloud services, and digital infrastructure, underscores the country’s growing role as a regional technology hub.

According to the Board of Investment (BOI), total applications rose 37 percent year on year, while foreign direct investment (FDI) soared to US$40.5 billion across 877 projects, marking an 80 percent jump compared to 2025.

The digital sector accounted for the lion’s share, with more than US$33 billion flowing into data centers, AI platforms, and advanced computing facilities.

Singapore emerged as the dominant investor, channeling US$33.2 billion into Thailand’s digital economy.

Other major contributors included the United Kingdom, China, Taiwan, and Japan, each diversifying into electronics, manufacturing, and renewable energy.

The scale of Singapore’s commitment highlights its role as a regional capital hub, while the broader mix of investors reflects Thailand’s appeal across multiple industries.

Beyond digital infrastructure, Thailand attracted significant inflows into electronics, agriculture, food processing, automotive, and robotics.

Renewable energy also gained momentum, with 198 projects worth US$1.17 billion in solar, wind, biomass, and biogas.

This diversification signals a balanced investment landscape, positioning Thailand not only as a tech hub but also as a sustainable energy player.

Regionally, Central Thailand captured US$26.7 billion, while the Eastern Economic Corridor drew US$14.7 billion, reinforcing its role as an industrial powerhouse.

The north of the country posted the fastest growth, nearly doubling investment compared to last year, suggesting that investors are exploring new frontiers beyond traditional industrial zones.

The economic impact is already tangible. More than 82,000 jobs are expected to be created, while annual exports could exceed US$36.8 billion.

Domestic supply chains will also benefit, with raw material utilization projected at US$11.4 billion annually.

Despite global headwinds ranging from geopolitical tensions to volatile energy prices Thailand’s investment momentum remains resilient.

BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi emphasized that investor confidence is holding firm, driven by the country’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and government support for high-tech industries.

The AI driven boom places Thailand in direct competition with regional peers such as Vietnam and Malaysia, both of which are also courting global tech giants.

Yet Thailand’s ability to attract such a large volume of capital in a short span suggests it is carving out a distinctive niche as a manufacturing and digital hub.

As the second half of 2026 unfolds, the challenge will be sustaining this pace while ensuring that investments translate into long term economic transformation.

For now, Thailand’s record breaking inflows mark a turning point, signaling that the country is no longer just a gateway to Southeast Asia it is becoming a central node in the region’s digital future.
