Washington, Oktober 7, 2026 – Bitcoin and Ethereum retreated on October 7, 2026, as persistent selling pressure at the $87,000 threshold capped momentum across the crypto market.
The move underscored investor caution, even as U.S. equities surged to fresh highs, highlighting a divergence between traditional markets and digital assets.
Bitcoin slipped to the $85,600 to $86,000 range after failing to break through resistance at $87,000 for the third time since late September.
Analysts described the price action as forming a triangle pattern, with rising support and horizontal resistance, a setup that often precedes sharp volatility.

Ethereum mirrored the decline, trading near $2,600, down about 1 to 2 percent.
The total crypto market capitalization eased to $2.93 trillion, just below the $2.95 trillion ceiling.
Institutional flows added to the cautious tone. Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States recorded net outflows of $159.7 million on October 5, led by Fidelity and ARK 21Shares.
BlackRock’s IBIT partially offset withdrawals with $69.9 million in inflows, but the uneven demand reflected investor hesitation.
Futures open interest climbed to $55.6 billion, up six percent in a week, signaling speculative positioning without extreme leverage.
Macro conditions weighed heavily. U.S. Treasury yields rose, with the 10 year benchmark hitting 5.32 percent, its highest since 2002.
The move underscored tightening financial conditions, even as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq reached record levels on easing expectations of Federal Reserve rate hikes.
Analysts noted that crypto’s correlation with equities has strengthened, with Bitcoin’s link to the S&P 500 rising to 0.51, the strongest since June.
FxPro analyst Alex Kuptsikevich warned that Bitcoin is “approaching the apex of the triangle,” suggesting heightened volatility if price breaks out.
For investors, the $87,000 ceiling has become both a psychological and technical barrier.
A decisive move above could open the path toward Bitcoin’s highest levels in eight months, while failure risks renewed downside pressure.
Ethereum’s inability to decouple from Bitcoin highlighted its reliance on broader sentiment.
Altcoins showed mixed performance, with ADA and NEAR posting isolated gains, though the overall market tone remained subdued.
The standoff at $87,000 reflects a market caught between optimism in equities and caution in digital assets.
For traders, the coming sessions may prove pivotal, as crypto seeks to reclaim momentum in the face of tightening liquidity and shifting institutional flows.
