Jakarta, June 16, 2026 — PT Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) posted a striking profit increase in May 2026, underscoring the resilience of Indonesia’s housing sector amid global financial uncertainty.

The state owned lender reported consolidated net income of Rp 1.85 trillion, a 54.37 percent jump from Rp 1.19 trillion in the same period last year.

The surge was driven by robust lending activity and stronger net interest income, which climbed 15.15 percent year-on-year to Rp 7.13 trillion.

Credit and financing portfolios expanded nearly 10 percent to Rp 403.06 trillion, while third-party funds rose 9.09 percent to Rp 433.95 trillion.

Operating profit soared 58.37 percent to Rp 2.39 trillion, supported by improved efficiency and cost management.

BTN’s Chief Executive Officer, Nixon LP Napitupulu, emphasized that housing remains a fundamental driver of Indonesia’s economy.

“Housing is not merely an investment it is a basic need. This ensures demand remains steady, and BTN is committed to supporting the sector through accessible financing,” he said.

The bank’s pre-provision operating profit (PPOP) also strengthened, reaching Rp 3.98 trillion, up 20.07 percent from last year.

Analysts note that BTN’s focus on mortgage lending has insulated it from broader volatility in global markets, where rising interest rates have pressured banks’ margins.

Beyond financial performance, BTN has been expanding its digital footprint. The launch of “BTN Digital Stores” in Jakarta reflects the lender’s push to modernize customer engagement and streamline services.

This digital strategy is expected to complement its traditional mortgage business, attracting younger demographics and enhancing operational efficiency.

The broader economic context remains challenging.

Bank Indonesia’s tightening cycle has raised borrowing costs, yet housing demand continues to grow, supported by urbanization and government-backed housing programs.

BTN’s improving asset quality, reflected in lower non-performing loans, signals resilience in its portfolio.

Looking ahead, BTN projects continued momentum in the second half of 2026.

The bank plans to expand housing finance programs, strengthen its digital ecosystem, and maintain disciplined risk management.

With housing as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s economic growth, BTN’s performance highlights the sector’s enduring strength.
