New York, Oktober 12, 2026 – Amazon is in advanced discussions to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart for around $7 billion, according to reports, in what could become one of the company’s most significant moves to strengthen its AI infrastructure.
The talks remain preliminary, but if finalized, the deal would underscore Amazon’s ambition to compete more aggressively against rivals Nvidia and Google in the race to dominate AI hardware and software ecosystems.
Decart, founded in 2021, has quickly emerged as a critical player in AI optimization.
Its flagship product, the Decart Optimization Stack (DOS), enables machine learning workloads to run efficiently across different chips, including Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon’s Trainium processors.

This cross platform capability is particularly valuable amid a global shortage of high performance computing resources, allowing companies to maximize limited chip supply.
The startup also develops specialized AI models. “Lucy,” its real time video editing tool, powers applications such as virtual try ons for ecommerce, while “Oasis” provides simulation environments for robotics and autonomous driving.
These innovations have attracted major investors, with Decart raising $300 million in May 2026 at a valuation near $4 billion.
That round was led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new backer.
Amazon’s reported offer nearly doubles that valuation, signaling the strategic importance of Decart’s technology.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has already collaborated with Decart, granting the startup early access to its Trainium3 chip in 2025.
Acquiring Decart would allow AWS to integrate optimization software directly into its ecosystem, offering customers greater flexibility and efficiency.
Analysts suggest the move could help Amazon counter Nvidia’s dominance in AI accelerators, while also differentiating AWS from Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
Financially, Amazon is well-positioned to pursue such a deal.
The company reported quarterly revenues exceeding $200 billion in mid 2026, with net income surpassing $62 billion. A $7 billion acquisition, while modest relative to Amazon’s balance sheet, would be strategically significant in shaping the future of AI infrastructure.
Still, risks remain. Negotiations could collapse, as seen earlier this year when Anthropic walked away from a potential $6 billion acquisition of Decart after due diligence.
Questions also linger about whether Decart’s neutrality its ability to optimize across rival chips would be compromised under Amazon’s ownership.
If successful, the acquisition would cement Amazon’s role as a central player in the AI ecosystem, intensifying competition and potentially reshaping how enterprises deploy machine learning models across diverse hardware platforms.
